The word greatness mostly pops up in our daily conversations, speeches, motivational books and audios, empowerment seminars etc. Again, there are names that come into mind when the topic is about greatness or great people. Examples are Steve Jobs, Usain Bolt, Christiano Ronaldo, Oprah Winfrey, Jay Z, Naomi Campbell, Asamoah Gyan, Aliko Dangote etc. All these people are specially gifted and unique at what they do. However there is a saying that there is greatness in all of us but the question is how come we are all not great at what we do?
If greatness is how good you want to be, then it begins with a decision. There are millions of entrepreneurs, musicians, students, doctors, Presidents, footballers etc in the world so what will set you apart? What will let your name be written in the stars and let history remember it? Are you doing what everyone else can do or the opposite? If you don’t seem to find straight answers to these question then you are not ready for greatness. Take a very critical look at your life, talent and what you do then make a decision in your mind and say it in your heart that “I want to be the extraordinary version of what everyone is doing, i want the world to experience my greatness”
Greatness doesn’t happen overnight and that is the hard truth…you need to prepare every second of the way. It took Oprah decades to be recognised as a great TV host. It took sacrifice, hard work, tears and sweat to gain that recognition because she didn’t want to be just a regular TV host. Naomi Campbell was recruited into modelling at the age of 15 and she is now 47yrs old, meaning she has stood tall, paved way for other black models and changed the face of the fashion and modelling industry for over three decades. Most of her colleagues she started with are nowhere to be found, this is because they were just models and they didn’t do anything to set them apart.
You have decided to be great at what you do so you need to work extra harder than others, go the extra mile and learn from people who have already travelled that same road. Make sure everything you do daily contributes to the bigger picture…greatness. Find yourself the right mentors and role models to enhance your preparation towards the future that you seek.
Yes you want to be great but know your strength and weakness. Know what you can do and can’t do because that is your truth, nobody knows you better than you know yourself. If you are good at drawing and designing, don’t jump into football simply because footballers are making big money in the world. That isn’t your call so don’t deceive yourself….just find your truth.
The great people that we know today or we read about are not known because of their money, skin colour, height or even their beauty; there are a lot of rich people with good features who pass through life and they are not remembered for anything. Money is just a reward that comes with what you do. Great people are known for their courage to go against the odds, to break boundaries and records, to bounce back when they fall and set new records.
Doubt and delay are evidence of disconnection from faith and courage. Do not doubt that you can be a person of greatness, nor delay the acts of strength and love that will prove it. – Brendon Burchard
Don’t walk through life without leaving a footprint of greatness!
